Topic: Speech Work: Guided Speech Making – Vote of Thanks

What is a Vote of Thanks?

A vote of thanks is a short speech given to appreciate people who helped make an event successful. It shows gratitude and good manners.

Structure of a Vote of Thanks:

  1. Greeting – Welcome the audience
  2. Purpose – State why you’re giving thanks
  3. Specific Appreciation – Thank particular people or groups
  4. General Thanks – Thank everyone who contributed
  5. Closing – End with gratitude and good wishes

Sample Vote of Thanks:

“Good afternoon, distinguished guests, teachers, and fellow students.

I stand before you today to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made our Science Fair a tremendous success.

First, I want to thank our headmaster, Mr. Adebayo, for his constant support and encouragement. Special thanks go to Mrs. Okafor, our Science teacher, who guided us throughout this project. We also appreciate our parents who provided materials and moral support.

I cannot forget to thank the judges from the University of Lagos who took time to evaluate our projects. Their feedback was very valuable.

Finally, I thank all my fellow students who participated enthusiastically and made this event colorful and educative.
