LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to: i. explain the meaning of resources ii. list personal resources and family resources iii. examine personal resources and personal belongings

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Pupils understand family structure and have personal belongings they can identify.

LESSON CONTENT

A. MEANING OF RESOURCES

Resources are things that are useful and valuable to people. They can be used to meet needs, solve problems, or achieve goals. Resources can be natural, human-made, or human abilities and skills.

B. CLASSIFICATION OF RESOURCES

  1. Natural Resources
  • Things that come from nature
  • Examples: water, air, sunlight, land, trees, minerals
  1. Human Resources
  • People and their abilities, skills, and knowledge
  • Examples: teachers, doctors, farmers, students
  1. Material Resources
  • Physical things that people own or use
  • Examples: money, houses, cars, clothes, books

C. PERSONAL RESOURCES

Personal resources are things that belong to an individual person. These help the person meet their needs and achieve their goals.

  1. Physical Personal Resources
  • Clothes – shirts, dresses, shoes, underwear

  • School materials – books, pens, pencils, bags
  • Personal items – toys, games, jewelry, watch
  • Money – pocket money, savings, gifts received

  • Electronic items – phone, tablet, radio (if owned)
  1. Personal Skills and Abilities
  • Academic skills – reading, writing, mathematics
  • Physical abilities – running, jumping, dancing, sports
  • Creative skills – drawing, singing, storytelling
  • Social skills – making friends, communicating, sharing
  • Practical skills – cooking, cleaning, organizing
  1. Personal Qualities
  • Character traits – honesty, kindness, patience
  • Talents – special abilities in music, art, sports
  • Knowledge – things learned from school and experience
  • Health – physical and mental well-being
  • Time – personal time available for activities

D. FAMILY RESOURCES

Family resources are things that belong to or benefit the whole family. All family members can use or benefit from these resources.

  1. Material Family Resources
  • House/Home – where the family lives
  • Furniture – chairs, tables, beds, wardrobes
  • Kitchen equipment – stove, refrigerator, pots, dishes
  • Transportation – family car, bicycle, motorcycle
  • Electrical appliances – television, radio, fan, iron
  • Family money – income from parents’ work, family savings
  1. Human Family Resources
  • Parents’ skills – father’s and mother’s abilities and knowledge
  • Family members’ talents – special abilities of siblings, grandparents
  • Family connections – relatives who can help with advice or support
  • Community relationships – neighbors, friends, church members
  • Professional contacts – doctors, teachers, mechanics the family knows
  1. Natural Family Resources
  • Family land – compound, garden, farm (if available)
  • Natural environment – clean air, water sources nearby
  • Climate – favorable weather for family activities

E. EXAMINATION OF PERSONAL RESOURCES AND BELONGINGS

  1. Taking Inventory of Personal Belongings Students should list and categorize their personal items:

School Items:

  • Uniform pieces
  • School bag and contents
  • Books and notebooks
  • Writing materials

Personal Items:

  • Clothes for home and play
  • Shoes and slippers
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Toys and games
  1. Caring for Personal Resources
  • Keep items clean – wash clothes, clean shoes, organize books
  • Store properly – put things in their right places
  • Handle carefully – avoid rough treatment that damages items
  • Share responsibly – lend items carefully and return borrowed things
  • Repair when needed – fix broken items or ask adults for help
