Family Needs and Resources

Once upon a time, in the bustling city of Lagos, lived a family named the Adebayos. The Adebayos were a close-knit family consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Adebayo and their three children in a modest but comfortable house. Like every family, the Adebayos had various needs and limited resources.

One day, as the Adebayos gathered around the dinner table, little five-year-old sister, Teniola, who was always full of questions, asked, “Daddy, what are family needs?” Mr. Adebayo smiled at his daughter’s curiosity and explained, “Family needs, my dear, are the basic things we require to live happily and healthily. These include food, shelter, clothing, education, and healthcare.”

Just then, eight-year-old son Kemi asked, “But if we need all of these things, how do we get them?” Mr. Adebayo replied, “That’s a great question, Kemi! We use our family resources.” He went on to explain, “Family resources are like tools that help us accomplish tasks. Like a pen and paper help kids write, our family resources help us meet our family’s needs.”

Mrs. Adebayo, who had been listening to the husband, added, “Our most valuable resource, represented by Kemi’s imagination, are our income earned. Treasuring ourselves when it comes to learning opportunities, we can help our family meet its needs.”

“Just like how a bee collects flowers to make honey, we collect and use our available resources to meet our family’s needs. Money earned through honest work enables us to buy essentials, but we must be wise in how we spend it.”
