When Wind Becomes Dangerous

Sometimes the wind can be very strong and cause problems for people and things around us.

Harmful Effects of Strong Wind

  • Destroys houses – can blow off roofs and break windows

  • Uproots trees – pulls big trees from the ground

  • Causes accidents – makes cars and trucks difficult to control
  • Spreads fires – makes fire burn faster and wider

  • Damages crops – destroys farmers’ plants and food

  • Hurts people – can knock people down
  • Creates dust storms – fills air with sand and dirt

  • Sinks boats – makes big waves on water

How to Stay Safe During Strong Wind

  • Stay inside your house
  • Close all doors and windows
  • Stay away from big trees
  • Do not go swimming or near water
  • Avoid flying kites or playing outside
