LESSON A: GRAMMAR – PRESENT, PAST, AND FUTURE TENSES
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
- Identify the verb and tense in a sentence by circling it
- Write sentences using past, present, or future tense
- Differentiate between sentences in past, present, and future tenses
Content
Tense Review
PRESENT TENSE (happening now)
- I play football every day.
- She goes to school.
- We are eating lunch now.
PAST TENSE (already happened)
- I played football yesterday.
- She went to school this morning.
- We ate lunch an hour ago.
FUTURE TENSE (will happen later)
- I will play football tomorrow.
- She will go to school next Monday.
- We will eat lunch soon.
Time Words
Present: now, today, always, every day Past: yesterday, last week, ago, before Future: tomorrow, next week, later, soon
Identifying Tenses
Look for:
- -ed endings (past)
- will + verb (future)
- -ing with am/is/are (present continuous)
Exercise
- Circle the verb and identify the tense in 5 sentences
- Change present tense sentences to past tense
- Write sentences using all three tenses
