LESSON A: GRAMMAR – PRESENT, PAST, AND FUTURE TENSES

Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Identify the verb and tense in a sentence by circling it
  2. Write sentences using past, present, or future tense
  3. Differentiate between sentences in past, present, and future tenses

Content

Tense Review

PRESENT TENSE (happening now)

  • I play football every day.
  • She goes to school.
  • We are eating lunch now.

PAST TENSE (already happened)

  • I played football yesterday.
  • She went to school this morning.
  • We ate lunch an hour ago.

FUTURE TENSE (will happen later)

  • I will play football tomorrow.
  • She will go to school next Monday.
  • We will eat lunch soon.

Time Words

Present: now, today, always, every day Past: yesterday, last week, ago, before Future: tomorrow, next week, later, soon

Identifying Tenses

Look for:

  • -ed endings (past)
  • will + verb (future)
  • -ing with am/is/are (present continuous)

Exercise

  1. Circle the verb and identify the tense in 5 sentences
  2. Change present tense sentences to past tense
  3. Write sentences using all three tenses
