Parts of a Book

Front Cover: Title, author’s name, picture Back Cover: Summary, author information Inside Pages: Text, pictures, page numbers

Types of Print Materials

Books: Novels, storybooks, textbooks Newspapers: Daily news, pictures, headlines Magazines: Articles, colorful pictures, advertisements

Text Organization

Sentence: Group of words expressing one idea Paragraph: Group of sentences about one topic Story: Multiple paragraphs telling a complete tale

Exercise

  1. Identify the title and author of a given book
  2. Sort pictures of books, newspapers, and magazines
  3. Count sentences in a paragraph
