Al-Wudu (الْوُضُوء) is ablution, the washing of certain parts of the body with clean water before prayer. It makes a Muslim ready to pray. Muslims make Wudu before Salah and before touching the Qur’an. This note shows why we make Wudu, how to do it step by step, and what breaks it.

Why do Muslims make Wudu?
- Allah commands it before prayer. Our prayer is not accepted without it.

- It shows that we obey Allah and follow the Prophet (SAW).
The Prophet (SAW) said: “Allah does not accept prayer without purification” (Hadith, Muslim).

- Say Bismillah (بِسْمِ اللهِ), meaning “In the name of Allah”.

The steps of Wudu
- Wash both hands up to the wrists, 3 times.
- Rinse the mouth, 3 times.

The du’a after Wudu
Meaning: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
