What is affixation?

Affixation is the addition of prefixes, suffixes and infixes to words to form new words, meanings and word classes. This lesson deals with suffixes, which are added to the end of a word. Suffixes such as -ment, -ion, -er, -ness and -ity change verbs and adjectives into new words, usually nouns.
