Different Ball Games

What is Volleyball? Volleyball is a team sport where two teams of six players each try to score points by hitting a ball over a net and making it land in the opponent’s court.

Facilities in Volleyball (Places and fixed structures)

  1. Court – Rectangular playing area (18m × 9m)
  2. Net – Divides court into two halves (2.43m high for men, 2.24m for women)
  3. Center Line – Line under the net
  4. Attack Line – 3 meters from center line
  5. Service Area – Behind the end line

Equipment in Volleyball (Movable items)

  1. Volleyball – Inflated leather or synthetic ball
  2. Knee Pads – Protect knees when diving
  3. Sports Shoes – Non-marking rubber soles
  4. Net Antenna – Markers on the net sides
  5. Uniform – Jersey and shorts
  6. Whistle – Used by referee

Basic Skills in Volleyball

  1. Serving
  • Underhand serve (easier for beginners)
  • Overhand serve (more powerful)
  • Jump serve (advanced)
  1. Passing (Bump)
  • Using forearms to receive the ball
  • Keep arms together and straight
  1. Setting
  • Using fingertips to position ball for attacker
  • Hands above head, fingers spread
  1. Spiking (Attacking)
  • Jumping and hitting ball forcefully downward
  • Requires good timing
  1. Blocking
  • Jumping to stop opponent’s spike
  • Arms extended above net
  1. Digging
  • Defensive move to prevent ball from touching floor
  • Often a diving motion

Basic Rules

  • Each team has 3 touches maximum
  • Ball must go over net
  • Cannot touch net during play
  • 25 points to win a set (best of 5 sets)
  • Rally scoring (point on every serve)

Safety Measures in Volleyball

  1. Warm up and stretch before playing
  2. Wear proper footwear
  3. Use knee pads to prevent injuries
  4. Keep court clean and dry
  5. Check net is properly secured
  6. Communicate with teammates to avoid collisions
  7. Stay hydrated during play
  8. Learn proper techniques to avoid injuries
  9. Have first aid kit available
  10. Follow referee’s instructions
