What is an Interview?

An interview is a formal conversation where someone asks you questions to learn more about you. This could be for school admission, prefect positions, or club membership.
Types of Questions in Interviews:
Personal Questions:
- “Tell us about yourself”
- “What are your hobbies?”
- “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
Academic Questions:
- “What is your favorite subject and why?”
- “How do you handle difficult subjects?”
- “What are your academic goals?”
Leadership Questions:
- “Why do you want to be a prefect?”
- “How would you solve conflicts among students?”
- “What changes would you make in the school?”
Tips for Good Interview Performance:
- Before the Interview:
- Prepare answers to common questions
- Practice speaking clearly and confidently
- Dress neatly and appropriately
- Arrive early
- During the Interview:
- Greet the interviewers politely
- Sit up straight and maintain eye contact
- Speak clearly and at moderate pace
- Listen carefully to questions before answering
- Good Interview Language:
- “Good morning, sir/ma”
- “Thank you for this opportunity”
- “I believe…”
- “In my opinion…”
- “I would like to…”
- “Thank you for your time”
Exercise A – Practice Interview Questions
Work in pairs. Take turns being interviewer and interviewee:
Round 1: Personal Questions
- Tell me about yourself.
- What do you like doing in your free time?
- What makes you special?
Round 2: School-Related Questions
- Why do you want to be a library prefect?
- How would you encourage students to read more?
- What would you do if you caught someone damaging books?
Exercise B – Improve These Answers
Rewrite these poor interview answers to make them better:

Exercise C – Interview Role Play
Practice these interview scenarios:
- Applying for Head Boy/Girl position
- Joining the school debate club
- Seeking admission to secondary school
Use proper greetings, clear answers, and polite language.
