Practice These Sounds:

Short Vowel Sounds:

• /a/ as in cat, hat, bag
• /e/ as in pen, ten, hen
• /i/ as in pig, big, sit
• /o/ as in pot, hot, dog
• /u/ as in cup, bus, run

Exercise 1: Say these words with the right sounds:

1. c-a-t (short /a/)
2. p-e-n (short /e/)
3. b-i-g (short /i/)
4. d-o-g (short /o/)
5. c-u-p (short /u/)

Exercise 2: Circle the words with /a/ sound: cat – pen – hat – big – bag – dog

Exercise 3: Clap and say each sound:
