Characteristics of National Unity:

1. ONE CONSTITUTION Meaning: A single set of laws and rules that govern all citizens equally, regardless of their background.

Importance:

• Ensures equal treatment under the law
• Provides same rights and duties for all citizens
• Creates uniform standards for governance
• Prevents favoritism and discrimination
• Builds trust in the justice system

Examples:

• All Nigerians have the same fundamental rights
• Same criminal and civil laws apply to everyone
• Equal voting rights for all eligible citizens
• Same educational standards across the country
• Uniform business and trade regulations

2. COMMON NATIONAL GOALS Meaning: Shared objectives and aspirations that all citizens work together to achieve.

Nigeria’s National Goals (from the Constitution):
