INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

PERIOD 1 and 2: Measuring and Calculating the Perimeter of a Square

STEP TEACHER’S ACTIVITY PUPIL’S ACTIVITY
STEP 1 – INTRODUCTION Introduces the concept of a square and its properties (equal sides). Pupils listen and discuss the properties of a square.
STEP 2 – EXPLANATION Explains how to calculate the perimeter of a square (Perimeter = 4 × side). Pupils take notes on how to calculate the perimeter.
STEP 3 – DEMONSTRATION Demonstrates calculating the perimeter of a square using real examples. Pupils follow along, calculating the perimeter of squares.
STEP 4 – EXERCISES Provides practice problems on calculating the perimeter of squares. Pupils solve the exercises.

EVALUATION:

  • Find the perimeter of a square with a side length of 5 cm.
  • Find the perimeter of a square with a side length of 7 meters.

CLASSWORK:

  • Find the perimeter of a square with a side length of 3 cm.
  • Find the perimeter of a square with a side length of 4 meters.

ASSIGNMENT:

  • Find the perimeter of a square with a side length of 8 cm.
  • Find the perimeter of a square with a side length of 6 meters.

PERIOD 3 and 4: Measuring and Calculating the Perimeter of a Rectangle

STEP TEACHER’S ACTIVITY PUPIL’S ACTIVITY
STEP 1 – INTRODUCTION Introduces the concept of a rectangle and its properties (opposite sides are equal). Pupils listen and take notes on the properties of a rectangle.
STEP 2 – EXPLANATION Explains how to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle (Perimeter = 2(l + b), where l = length, b = breadth). Pupils take notes and discuss the formula.
STEP 3 – DEMONSTRATION Demonstrates calculating the perimeter of a rectangle using examples. Pupils follow along with the teacher’s example.
STEP 4 – EXERCISES Provides practice problems on calculating the perimeter of rectangles. Pupils solve the problems independently or in pairs.

EVALUATION:

  • Calculate the perimeter of a rectangle with length 6 cm and breadth 4 cm.
  • Calculate the perimeter of a rectangle with length 8 meters and breadth 3 meters.

CLASSWORK:

  • Calculate the perimeter of a rectangle with length 5 cm and breadth 2 cm.
  • Calculate the perimeter of a rectangle with length 7 meters and breadth 4 meters.

ASSIGNMENT:

  • Calculate the perimeter of a rectangle with length 10 cm and breadth 6 cm.
  • Calculate the perimeter of a rectangle with length 12 meters and breadth 5 meters.

PERIOD 5: Area of a Square and Rectangle

STEP TEACHER’S ACTIVITY PUPIL’S ACTIVITY
STEP 1 – INTRODUCTION Introduces the concept of area for a square (Area = side × side). Pupils listen and take notes on how to calculate the area.
STEP 2 – EXPLANATION Explains the formula for calculating the area of a square. Pupils discuss the formula and solve a sample problem.
STEP 3 – DEMONSTRATION Demonstrates calculating the area of a square and rectangle. Pupils follow along, calculating the area.
STEP 4 – EXERCISES Provides practice problems for calculating the area of squares and rectangles. Pupils solve the exercises independently or in pairs.
