Content

“Jack and Jill” Poem

Jack and Jill went up the hill

To fetch a pail of water.

Jack fell down and broke his crown,

And Jill came tumbling after.

 

Vocabulary

  • fetch – to go and get something
  • pail – a bucket for carrying water
  • crown – here it means his head
  • tumbling – falling and rolling

Story Analysis

Characters: Jack and Jill (two children) Setting: A hill with water at the top Problem: Jack falls and hurts his head Action: Jill also falls after Jack

Ideas in the Poem

  • Children working together (fetching water)
  • Accidents can happen (Jack falls)
  • Friends stick together (Jill follows)
  • Simple daily tasks (getting water)

Actions to Demonstrate

  • Walking up hill – step, step, step upward
  • Carrying pail – pretend to hold bucket
  • Falling down – carefully act out falling
  • Tumbling – roll gently on the ground
