Introduction:

Children, we have learned how to give first aid. But what supplies do we need to help injured people? Today we will learn about the contents of a first aid kit.

Lesson Content:

What is a First Aid Kit?

• A first aid kit is a box or bag with medical supplies
• It contains items needed to help injured people
• Every home, school, and car should have one
• It helps us give proper first aid quickly

Contents of a First Aid Kit:

1. BANDAGES:

• What they are: Strips of cloth or plastic
• What they do: Cover cuts and wounds
• Types: Different sizes for different injuries
• How to use: Place gently over clean wound

2. PLASTERS (Band-aids):

• What they are: Small sticky bandages
• What they do: Cover small cuts and scrapes
• Types: Different sizes and fun colors
• How to use: Remove backing and stick over small wound

3. COTTON WOOL:

• What it is: Soft white fluffy material
• What it does: Cleans wounds and stops bleeding
• How to use: Dab gently on cuts with clean hands
• Important: Use clean pieces each time

4. ANTISEPTIC WIPES:

• What they are: Wet tissues with cleaning medicine
• What they do: Kill germs and clean wounds
• How to use: Wipe gently around cuts
• Important: Do not use on eyes or mouth

5. SCISSORS:

• What they are: Small cutting tool
• What they do: Cut bandages and tape to right size
• Safety rule: Only adults should use scissors in first aid
• Storage: Keep in safe place in kit

6. MEDICAL TAPE:

• What it is: Sticky tape for medical use
• What it does: Holds bandages in place
• How to use: Stick edges of bandage down
• Important: Do not make too tight

7. INSTANT COLD PACK:

• What it is: Special pack that becomes cold when squeezed
• What it does: Reduces swelling and pain
• How to use: Squeeze to activate, wrap in cloth
• Important: Never put directly on skin

8. EMERGENCY CONTACT CARD:

• What it is: Card with important phone numbers
• What it contains:
  1. Emergency services number
  2. Family doctor’s number
  3. Parents’ phone numbers
  4. School contact information

9. THERMOMETER:

• What it is: Tool to measure body temperature
• What it does: Checks if someone has fever
• How to use: Only with adult help
• Types: Digital ones are safest for children

10. DISPOSABLE GLOVES:

• What they are: Plastic gloves worn once
• What they do: Protect hands from germs
• When to use: When touching blood or wounds
• Important: Throw away after one use

First Aid Kit Rules:

1. Adult Supervision: Always have grown-up help when using kit
2. Keep Clean: All items must stay clean and dry
3. Check Expiry: Replace old items regularly
4. Know Location: Everyone should know where kit is kept
5. Restock: Replace items after they are used

Where to Keep First Aid Kits:
