- Mention sources of HIV infection
- List the effects of STDs and HIV/AIDS on the family
- List responsible sexual behaviours

- Pictures of Medicinal areas of STDs/STIs

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – MEANING OF RESPONSIBLE SEXUAL BEHAVIOUR
Responsible sexual behaviour is a decision on how to make a better life.
This decision involves respecting yourself and your partner by not forcing into healthy sex relationship.
A husband and wife must love and trust one another. Both partners should stay away from sex outside marriage.
Values referred to responsible sexual behaviour are faithfulness, discipline and fear of God must be observed.
PROBLEMS OF PARENTHOOD
- Transfer of aggression
- Misunderstanding
- Impatient
- Lack of confidence
- Lack of trust
- Third part
- Poor eating habit
- Lack of job
- Unemployment
- Emotional/social chalice
- Sickness and diseases, etc.
CONCEPT OF STDs/STIs
STDs means sexually transmitted Diseases
STIs means Sexually Transmitted Infections
These diseases are passed from one person to another through sexual contact.
TYPES OF STDs/STIs
STIs include:
- Gonorrhea
- Syphilis
- HIV/AIDS, etc.
HIV – Human Immune – deficiency Virus (causes AIDS and interferes with the body’s ability to fight infections).
This virus destroys parts of the white blood cells. White blood cell is the body’s fighting disease immune system.
AIDS – Acquired Immune – deficiency Syndrome. It is the final life threatening stage of HIV infection.
LESSON 2 – SOURCES OF HIV/AIDS INFECTION
HIV/AIDS can be contracted through the following sources:
- Infected injection
- Exchange of body – planning objects, such as pins, needles, syringes, clippers, and razors
- Contact with blood of wounded persons with HIV/AIDS
- Blood transfusion
NOTE:
- AIDS cannot be contacted from food, water, handshakes, hugs, furniture or telephone.
- There is no cure yet for AIDS.
- The best way to prevent it is not to have sexual intercourse outside marriage.

- Marriage failure
- Reduction in family income
- Stigma from members of the community
