Topic: Intonation Practice In Statements, Questions, Commands And Request

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

  1. Use the correct intonation for a definite affirmative command – switch off the light, and ring the bell, ring the bell, even you! Should you wash the plates, please. 
  2. Use the intonation to change an abrupt command into a request or polite command – Ring the bell, ring the bell, even you! Should you wash the plates, please.

  2. Recorded speech on command and request where available.

When giving order and commands, the appropriate tone of voice is the falling intonation.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions. 
  2. Demonstrates the correct intonation to use in giving command and request. 

Pupil’s Activities – listens the teacher as he/she recorded voices in group or individually.

  1. Gives intonation and drills.

Pupil’s Activities – writes words of sentences and read the falling intonation taken from with the given using correct and rising intonation. Pupils ask each other to read aloud which words of rising or streaming developed by each reference.

  1. Pupil’s Activities – Practice/use of sentences individually.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
