What is Dance?

Dance is the art of moving your body in rhythm to music or beats to express feelings, tell stories, or have fun.

Simple Definition

Dance is moving your body with rhythm to music in a beautiful and organized way.

Key Parts of Dance

  1. Movement

Using your body to create patterns

  • Moving arms, legs, head, and hips
  • Jumping, turning, bending, swaying
  • Moving in different directions
  1. Rhythm

Moving in time with music or beats

  • Fast movements with fast music
  • Slow movements with slow music
  • Keeping the beat: 1-2-3-4
  1. Expression

Showing feelings through movement

  • Happy dances are bouncy and light
  • Sad dances are slow and heavy
  • Angry dances are sharp and strong
  1. Space

Where and how you move

  • Moving forward, backward, sideways
  • Dancing in one spot or moving around
  • Dancing alone or with others
