What is Pollution?

Pollution means making our environment dirty with harmful things that can make us sick.

Types of Pollution

Air Pollution:

  • Car exhaust – smoke from vehicles

  • Factory smoke – dirty air from industries

  • Burning rubbish – toxic smoke from trash

  • Dust – from roads and construction

  • Effects: Coughing, breathing problems, eye irritation

Water Pollution:

  • Sewage – dirty water from toilets

  • Factory waste – chemicals dumped in rivers

  • Litter – bottles and bags thrown in water

  • Oil spills – petroleum in oceans

  • Effects: Stomach sickness, skin diseases

Land Pollution:

  • Plastic waste – bags and bottles everywhere

  • Food scraps – rotting in wrong places

  • Chemicals – poisoning the soil

  • Metal cans – rusting on ground
  • Effects: Dirty environment, sick animals

Noise Pollution:

  • Loud music – from speakers and parties
  • Traffic noise – cars, buses, motorcycles
  • Construction sounds – drilling and hammering
  • Generators – loud machine noise
  • Effects: Headaches, hearing problems, can’t sleep

How Pollution Affects Our Health

  • Makes it hard to breathe
  • Causes skin rashes and itching
  • Gives us stomach problems from dirty water
  • Creates ear problems from loud noise
  • Makes us tired and sick
