What is Swimming?

Swimming is moving through water using coordinated movements of arms and legs. It’s an excellent exercise and important life skill.

Basic Swimming Strokes

Freestyle (Front Crawl):

  • Swim on your stomach
  • Arms move one after the other
  • Legs kick up and down
  • Turn head to side to breathe

Backstroke:

  • Swim on your back
  • Arms move like windmill
  • Look up at ceiling/sky
  • Kick legs straight

Breaststroke:

  • Arms and legs move like frog
  • Head comes up to breathe
  • Slower but easier stroke

Swimming Safety Rules

Before Swimming:

  • Always have adult supervision
  • Check water depth before entering
  • Warm up with stretching exercises
  • Never swim when feeling sick

In the Water:

  • Stay in areas where you can stand
  • Don’t swim alone – use buddy system
  • Enter water slowly, feet first
  • Call for help if in trouble

General Pool Rules:

  • Walk, don’t run around pool
  • No pushing or rough play
  • Listen to lifeguard instructions
  • Get out if you feel tired

CLASS ACTIVITIES

Swimming Movements: Practice on land:

  • Freestyle arm movements (alternating)
  • Backstroke arms (like windmill)
  • Breaststroke arms (like frog)

 

HOMEWORK

  1. Ask your family about swimming safety they know
