Last December, Funmi was having the best holiday of her life. Her family was staying at her uncle’s house in the village. Every morning, Funmi was waking up to the sound of roosters crowing. She was helping her aunt feed the chickens and goats. In the afternoons, Funmi and her cousins were swimming in the clean river behind the house. They were also climbing mango trees and picking fresh fruits. The children were playing traditional games like hide-and-seek and singing folk songs in the evenings. Funmi’s grandmother was telling them interesting stories about the old days. It was the most memorable vacation Funmi ever had.
