What We Will Learn Today
- How the Israelites finally reached their new home
- Why Moses could not enter the promised land
- How Joshua became the new leader

The Story
After 40 years in the wilderness, it was finally time for God’s people to enter the promised land called Canaan. This was the special land God had promised to give them.
But Moses, their leader, had grown very old. God told Moses that he would not enter the promised land because he had disobeyed God once by striking a rock instead of speaking to it.
Before Moses died, God chose Joshua to be the new leader. Joshua was brave and loved God very much.
God told Joshua, “Be strong and brave! I will be with you just like I was with Moses.”
When it was time to cross into the promised land, they came to the Jordan River. The river was deep and wide. But God did another miracle!
As soon as the priests carrying God’s special box (the Ark) stepped into the water, the river stopped flowing! The water piled up like a wall, and all the people walked across on dry ground.
Finally, after so many years, God’s people were in their new home! They set up stones to remember how God helped them cross the river.
God had kept His promise! He gave them a land flowing with milk and honey, just like He said He would.
