Topic: Structure: Using Past Continuous Tense in Sentences

Pattern: was/were + verb + ing

Use ‘was’ with: I, he, she, it

  • My mother was cooking dinner.
  • I was helping in the kitchen.
  • She was washing clothes.

Use ‘were’ with: you, we, they

  • We were eating together.
  • The children were playing outside.
  • You were reading a story.

Examples about mothers:

  • Mother was preparing breakfast this morning.
  • She was singing while cleaning the house.
  • We were laughing at her funny jokes.

Complete these sentences:

  1. My mother _______ making my favorite soup. (was/were)
