. STRUCTURE: USING PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE

What is Past Continuous Tense? 

Shows an action that was happening in the past.

Pattern: was/were + verb + ing

Use ‘was’ with: I, he, she, it

  • I was eating rice.
  • She was reading a book.
  • The dog was barking.

Use ‘were’ with: you, we, they

  • You were playing football.
  • We were watching TV.
  • They were singing songs.

Complete these sentences:

  1. The children _______ playing in the garden. (were/was)
  2. My mother _______ cooking dinner. (were/was)
  3. I _______ doing my homework yesterday. (were/was)
