What is Software?

Software are programs that tell the computer what to do. You cannot touch software like hardware.

Operating System

The operating system is the main software that controls the computer:

• Windows – common on many computers
• Android – found on many phones
• iOS – found on iPhones

System Applications

These are programs that help the computer work:

• Calculator – for doing math
• Notepad – for writing simple notes
• Paint – for drawing pictures
• File manager – for organizing files
• Clock – shows time and date
