Learning Objectives

2. Narrate the account of how God created Adam and Eve
3. Identify the differences between the creation of Adam and Eve and other creations

Introduction

Today we will learn about how God made the first people, Adam and Eve, and how they were special and different from everything else God created.

Lesson Content

What is Creation?

• Creation means to make something from nothing
• God created everything we see – the sky, earth, animals, and people
• God spoke and things came into existence
• God made everything good and beautiful

How God Created Everything (Genesis 1)

• Day 1: Light and darkness

• Day 2: Sky and water
• Day 3: Land, seas, and plants
• Day 4: Sun, moon, and stars
• Day 5: Fish and birds
• Day 6: Animals and people
• Day 7: God rested

The Creation of Adam (Genesis 2:7)

How God Made Adam:

• God took dust from the ground
• God formed Adam like a potter makes clay pots
• God breathed into Adam’s nose the breath of life
• Adam became a living person
• God put Adam in a beautiful garden called Eden

What Made Adam Special:

• God made Adam with His own hands (not just by speaking)
• God breathed His own breath into Adam
• Adam was made in God’s image (like God in some ways)
• Adam could think, talk, and make choices
• Adam was given authority over all animals

The Creation of Eve (Genesis 2:18-25)

Why God Made Eve:

• God said, “It is not good for man to be alone”
• Adam needed a helper and companion
• All the animals had partners, but Adam was alone

How God Made Eve:

• God made Adam fall into a deep sleep
• God took a rib (bone) from Adam’s side
• God made the rib into a woman
• God brought Eve to Adam
• Adam was very happy and said, “This is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”

What Made Eve Special:

• She was made from Adam’s rib, not from dust
• She was Adam’s perfect partner
• She could also think, talk, and make choices
• She was also made in God’s image
• Together with Adam, they were to take care of the garden

Differences Between Creating Adam & Eve and Other Creations:

Other Creations:

• Made by God’s word (“Let there be…”)
• Made according to their kind
• Cannot think like humans
• Don’t have spirits
• Cannot talk to God directly

Adam and Eve:

• Made by God’s hands and breath
• Made in God’s image
• Can think, reason, and make choices
• Have spirits that can live forever
• Can talk and have relationship with God
• Given authority over other creatures
• Can tell right from wrong

Memory Verse

“God created mankind in his own image.” – Genesis 1:27
