Topic: Proving Air is Everywhere Around Us

Air is All Around Us

Even though we cannot see air, it is everywhere in the space around us. We can do simple activities to prove that air exists.

Simple Demonstrations of Air

Blowing Activity:

• Blow air from your mouth onto your hand
• You can feel the air moving
• Blow gently, then blow hard
• Notice the difference in how it feels

Paper and Air:

• Hold a piece of paper up high
• Let it go and watch it fall
• It moves slowly because air pushes against it
• Try with different sizes of paper

Balloon Demonstration:

• Blow air into a balloon
• The balloon gets bigger with air inside
• Let the air out slowly
• Feel the air coming out

Fun Air Experiments We Can Do

The Moving Paper:

• Hold two pieces of paper near your face
• Blow air between them
• Watch how they move toward each other
• Air is pushing them

Fan and Air:

• Turn on a fan or wave a book like a fan
• Feel the air moving on your skin
• Point the fan at light objects
• See how air can move things

Bubbles in Water:

• Put a straw in a cup of water
• Blow gently through the straw
• See bubbles coming up
• Those bubbles are full of air

Air Takes Up Space

Bottle and Water:

• Push an empty bottle into water upside down
• The water cannot go all the way in
• Air inside the bottle is taking up space
• Air pushes the water away

Plastic Bag Test:

• Open a plastic bag wide
• Run with it to catch air
• The bag fills up with air
• You can see the bag getting big

Where Can We Find Air?

Air is in:

• Empty bottles and containers
• Inside balloons and balls
• Between the pages of books
• In empty rooms and spaces
• All around our bodies
