Topic: Death and Resurrection

What We Will Learn Today

  • What happened when Jesus died
  • How Jesus came back to life
  • Why Easter is such a happy day

The Story

After Jesus suffered on the cross, something very sad happened – Jesus died. But this was not the end of the story!

When Jesus Died:

  • It was on a Friday (we call it Good Friday)
  • The sky became dark in the middle of the day
  • Jesus said, “It is finished” and died
  • A rich man named Joseph put Jesus’ body in a tomb
  • A big stone was rolled in front of the tomb
  • Soldiers guarded the tomb

Jesus’ friends were very sad. They thought everything was over. They didn’t understand that God had a wonderful plan.

On Sunday Morning (Resurrection Day):

  • Some women went to visit Jesus’ tomb
  • They found the big stone had been rolled away!
  • An angel was there with amazing news
  • The angel said, “He is not here! He has risen!”
  • The tomb was empty – Jesus was alive!

Jesus Appeared to His Friends:

  • First, He appeared to Mary Magdalene
  • Then He walked with two disciples on a road
  • Later, He appeared to all His disciples
  • He showed them His hands and feet
  • He even ate food with them

Why This is So Important:

  • Jesus proved He is stronger than death
  • He showed that God’s power is the greatest
  • He made it possible for us to live forever with God
  • He defeated sin and Satan
  • Now we don’t have to be afraid of death

This is why we celebrate Easter – the day Jesus rose from the dead! It’s the most important day in the Christian year because Jesus is alive!

What We Learned

  • Jesus died on Friday and was buried in a tomb
  • On Sunday, Jesus came back to life (resurrection)
  • The tomb was empty and angels announced the good news
  • Jesus appeared to many of His friends
  • Jesus defeated death and made eternal life possible for us
