What are the career opportunities in physical and health education?
Career opportunities in physical and health education are the jobs a person can do after studying or training in sports, fitness and health.
Education and training careers
- Teaching: teaching physical and health education in schools and colleges.
- Coaching: training athletes and teams to improve their skills.
- Fitness instruction: guiding people in exercise and conditioning programmes.
Sports careers
- Sports officiating: refereeing, umpiring or judging matches by the rules.
- Sports marketing: selling sports events and sponsorship to interested groups.
- Sports journalism: reporting sports news in newspapers, radio, television and online.
- Sports management: running teams, clubs and sports facilities.
- Sports administration: handling the office work and planning of sports bodies.

A student prepares for a career by taking part in sports and learning about health while still in school.
- Take part in sports: join school teams and house sports to build skill and fitness.
- Study well: good results in school subjects such as Physical and Health Education and Biology help later training.
- Learn to lead: serve as a team captain, games prefect or assistant referee.
- Seek advice: talk to teachers, coaches and health workers about their work.
- Train further: attend a college, polytechnic or university for the chosen profession.
