Cooperation is people working together to achieve a common goal. Four factors that promote it are understanding among members, good reward and recognition, well-defined goals, and a clear need for cooperation. When members understand one another, expect a reward and share a clear goal, they work together more willingly.
Behavioural objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- state the factors that promote cooperation;
- explain how reward and recognition encourage people to work together;
- give examples of places in Nigeria named after leaders;
- explain why a goal must be well defined;
- state one benefit of cooperation.
What factors promote cooperation?
Understanding
A mutual understanding among people in society will make them work together for the goals and objectives of the society.
Good reward and recognition
If a group is certain of being rewarded when a goal is achieved, every member will work tirelessly towards the achievement of the goal. Society must recognise those who work for its progress. For this reason, football teams are rewarded bountifully, and institutions are named after some heroes and heroines.
Examples include:
- Tafawa Balewa Square
- Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife
- Murtala Muhammed Airport
They all have such names to immortalise leaders who worked for the unity and progress of Nigeria.
Well-defined goals
The team must have a goal that motivates each member to work together. The goal must be well stated and well defined. When the achievement of the ultimate goal benefits all members, they are propelled to work tirelessly towards it.
Clarity of the need for cooperation
In Nigeria, people have seen the need for democracy because of the gains so far.
