Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Mention at least five national heroes and heroines
  2. Arrange pictures of national honor award recipients in a chart
  3. Identify the award received by each hero/heroine

Famous Nigerian Heroes and Heroines:

  1. Chief Obafemi Awolowo – GCFR (Premier of Western Region, advocate for free education)

  1. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe – GCFR (First President of Nigeria, fought for independence)

  1. Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello – GCFR (Premier of Northern Region, Sardauna of Sokoto)

  1. Chief Herbert Macaulay – Called “Father of Nigerian Nationalism”

  1. Queen Amina of Zaria – Warrior queen who expanded Zazzau kingdom
