Topic: Structure: Present Perfect and Past Perfect Tense

Present Perfect Tense: Pattern: have/has + past participle

  • My father has worked hard all his life.
  • He has taught me many things.
  • We have spent good times together.

Past Perfect Tense: Pattern: had + past participle

  • My father had finished work before I came home.
  • He had cooked dinner before mother arrived.
  • We had eaten lunch before going out.

Compare the two tenses:

  • Present Perfect: He has helped me with homework. (still continues)
  • Past Perfect: He had helped me before the teacher came. (completed before another past action)

Complete these sentences:

  1. My father _______ worked in this company for ten years. (has/had)
  2. He _______ already left when I woke up. (has/had)
  3. We _______ lived in this house since 2020. (have/had)
  4. Father _______ prepared breakfast before we got up. (has/had)
