Topic: Structure: Present Perfect and Past Perfect Tense
Present Perfect Tense: Pattern: have/has + past participle
- My father has worked hard all his life.
- He has taught me many things.
- We have spent good times together.
Past Perfect Tense: Pattern: had + past participle
- My father had finished work before I came home.
- He had cooked dinner before mother arrived.
- We had eaten lunch before going out.
Compare the two tenses:
- Present Perfect: He has helped me with homework. (still continues)
- Past Perfect: He had helped me before the teacher came. (completed before another past action)
Complete these sentences:
- My father _______ worked in this company for ten years. (has/had)
- He _______ already left when I woke up. (has/had)
- We _______ lived in this house since 2020. (have/had)
- Father _______ prepared breakfast before we got up. (has/had)
