In the world of modern electronics and mobile phone repair, we cannot rely on our eyes alone to find faults. Many problems happen deep inside the microscopic circuits where electricity moves at incredible speeds. To “see” what is happening and fix these complex issues, we use Advanced Diagnostic Tools.
Think of these tools as the “medical equipment” for electronics. Just as a doctor uses an X-ray or a heart monitor to see inside a patient, a technician uses these tools to see inside a device.
The DC Power Supply
The DC (Direct Current) Power Supply is the heartbeat of a repair workshop. It is a device that converts AC electricity from your wall socket into a steady, controllable DC voltage that mobile phones and laptops use.
Why do we use it?
- Replacing the Battery: Often, a phone won’t turn on because the battery is dead or damaged. We can connect the phone directly to the DC Power Supply to see if it powers up.
- Reading Current Consumption: This is the most important part. By watching how much “current” (Amps) the phone pulls when you press the power button, you can tell what is wrong.
- If it pulls too much immediately, there is a short circuit.
- If it pulls nothing at all, there is an open circuit (broken path).
- Battery Boosting: We can use it to “shock” or jumpstart a battery that has drained below its minimum voltage.
Key Controls
- Voltage Knob: Usually set to 3.7V – 4.2V for mobile phones.

- Digital Display: Shows exactly how many Volts and Amps are being used in real-time.
The Oscilloscope
While a Multimeter tells you the “amount” of voltage, the Oscilloscope shows you the “shape” of the voltage over time. It draws a graph of the electrical signal on a screen.
How it helps a Technician:
- Signal Tracking: Every phone has “clocks” and “data lines” that pulse very fast. A multimeter is too slow to see these, but an oscilloscope shows the pulse clearly.
- Identifying “Noise”: Sometimes a power line has electricity, but it’s “dirty” or “noisy,” causing the phone to glitch. The oscilloscope shows these ripples so you can find the faulty capacitor causing it.
- Checking Communication: You can see if the CPU is actually talking to the Screen or the Power IC by looking at the data waveforms.
Common Waveforms:
- Square Wave: Common in digital data and clock signals.
- Sine Wave: Common in radio frequency (RF) and audio signals.
Software Diagnostic Tools
Hardware tools check the “body” of the device, but Software Tools check the “brain.” These are programs installed on a computer that communicate with the phone via a USB cable.
Types of Software Tools:
- Flashing Tools: These are used to reinstall the Operating System (Firmware). If a phone is stuck on a logo or restarting constantly, “flashing” it often fixes the problem.
- Unlocking Tools: Used to remove forgotten passwords, FRP (Google bypass), or network locks.
- Schematic Viewers (e.g., DZKJ, XinZhuoZhe): These are digital maps of the phone’s motherboard. They show you exactly where every wire and component goes. Without these, finding a tiny broken connection is almost impossible.
- Error Log Readers: Some software can read the “Panic Logs” or “Error Codes” stored inside a phone’s memory. It tells the technician exactly why the system crashed (e.g., “Error 4013” on iPhones usually means a NAND memory issue).

Using these tools requires a mix of patience and logic. A good technician follows a clear order:
- Power Test: Use the DC Power Supply to see if the board is “alive.”
- Software Test: Use Diagnostic Software to see if the computer recognizes the device.
- Signal Test: If power and software are okay but the device still fails, use the Oscilloscope to check the invisible signals.
