Topic: Polygons
What is a Polygon?
A polygon is a closed shape made up of straight lines. The lines are called sides and they connect at points called vertices.
Types of Polygons
- Triangle – 3 sides
- Quadrilateral – 4 sides (square, rectangle, rhombus)
- Pentagon – 5 sides
- Hexagon – 6 sides
- Octagon – 8 sides
Properties of Polygons
- All sides are straight lines
- The shape is completely closed
- No curves or gaps
- Each corner is called a vertex
Regular vs Irregular Polygons
- Regular polygon: All sides and angles are equal
- Irregular polygon: Sides and angles are different
EXERCISES
- Fill in the blanks:
- A shape with 5 sides is called a ________
- A polygon must be ________ (no gaps)
- The corners of a polygon are called ________
- A triangle has ________ sides
- True or False:
- A circle is a polygon ________
- All squares are regular polygons ________
- A hexagon has 6 sides ________
- Polygons can have curved sides ________
- Name these polygons:
