What are Farm Records?

Farm records are written information about all activities that happen on a farm. They are like a diary of everything that happens in farming – what was planted, what was spent, what was harvested, and what was earned.

Why Keep Records Like a Diary? Just like you might write in a diary about what happened in school each day, farmers write about what happens on their farm. This helps them remember important information and make better decisions.

Types of Farm Records:

  1. Production Records These record what the farm produces.

Examples:

  • Crop Production Record: Amount of maize, rice, or yam harvested
  • Animal Production Record: Number of eggs laid, milk produced, animals born
  • Planting Record: When crops were planted, which varieties used
  • Harvesting Record: When crops were harvested, quantity obtained

Sample Production Record:

Crop: Maize

Area Planted: 2 hectares

Variety: Yellow maize

Seeds Used: 25kg

Date of Harvesting: July 20, 2025
