Who is a Title Holder?

• A title holder is a person with a special name given by the traditional ruler
• The title shows the person is important
• Title holders help the traditional ruler
• They are respected in the community

Types of Title Holders

Different titles for different jobs:

1. Balogun – War leader/security chief

1. He protects the community
2. He is very brave

1. Iyalode – Leader of women
2. 
   1. She leads all the women
   2. She speaks for women

Apena – Leader of hunters

   2. He knows the forest well
2. Oluwo – Chief priest

1. He performs religious duties
2. He leads prayers

How to Become a Title Holder

You become a title holder if:

• You do good things for the community
• You are respected by people
• You are hardworking
• You are honest
• The Oba and elders choose you

When a Title Holder Can Be Removed

• If he does bad things
• If he disrespects the Oba
• If he fights with people
• If he brings shame to the title
• If he is dishonest
