1. Introduction

Welcome to LessonNotes.ng (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being open about how we collect, use and safeguard your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains our practices when you visit our website at https://lessonnotes.ng (the “Website”), sign in to an account, or buy Premium Access.

LessonNotes.ng is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. By accessing or using our Website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use our Website. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Use.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide to Us

We may collect personal information that you give us voluntarily when you:

• Contact us through forms, email or phone (name, email address, phone number, message content)
• Subscribe to updates, where we offer this (email address)
• Take part in surveys or feedback forms (responses and contact information)
• Add or correct your email address on your account, for example if your sign-in provider did not share one with us

2.2 Account and Sign-In Information (Google and Facebook)

You can create an account and sign in using your Google account or your Facebook account. We do not ask you to create a password. When you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Facebook,” the provider asks for your permission and then shares the following basic information with us:

• From Google: your Google account identifier, name, email address and profile picture
• From Facebook: your Facebook user identifier, name, email address (if you allow it) and profile picture

We do not receive your Google or Facebook password. We do not ask for access to your contacts, friends list, posts, messages, photos or any other data held by those providers.

To run your account, we also create and store:

• The date you signed up and which provider you used
• The date and provider of your most recent sign-in
• Whether your email address is verified
• Your marketing preference (marketing emails are off unless you opt in)

If you sign in using both Google and Facebook with the same verified email address, we link them to a single account so that you keep one library. If a provider does not share an email address, we create a placeholder address for your account and ask you to add a real email address before you can buy anything, so that we can send your receipt.

2.3 Purchase and Payment Information

When you buy Premium Access, we record:

• What you bought (class, subject and term, or all three terms)
• The amount and currency (Nigerian Naira), the payment reference, the payment status and the date and time of the order
• The email address on your account, used for your receipt

Payments are processed by Paystack. You enter your card, bank transfer or USSD details on Paystack’s secure payment page or pop-up, not on our servers. We receive confirmation of whether the payment succeeded, but we do not receive or store your full card number, card security code or bank login details.

2.4 Library and Download Activity

To give you access to what you have bought, and to protect our content, we keep:

• Your access records: which resources you can use, and when your access starts and ends
• A download log: which lesson note you downloaded, in which format (PDF or DOCX), when, and from which IP address

2.5 Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our Website, we automatically collect certain information through cookies, analytics tools and similar technologies:

• Usage Data: pages viewed, time spent on pages, click patterns, referring and exit pages
• Device Information: browser type, operating system, device type and IP address
• Location Data: approximate location based on your IP address
• Cookies and Similar Technologies: see Section 6

2.6 Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, which may collect information as described in their own policies:

• Google Sign-In and Facebook Login: to let you sign in without a password
• Paystack: to process payments
• Analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Burst Statistics: to understand how the Website is used
• Google Search Console: to monitor and maintain our search presence
• Advertising networks: to display advertisements on free pages of the Website
• Hosting and email providers: to run the Website and send receipts and account notices

3. How We Use Your Information

3.1 To Provide Our Services

• Display lesson notes organised by class, term, subject and topic
• Create and manage your account and sign you in
• Process your payment and give you Premium Access for the period you bought
• Show your resources in My Library and provide PDF and DOCX downloads
• Remove advertisements from the pages covered by your active access

3.2 To Communicate With You

• Send receipts, payment confirmations and account notices (for example, that your access is about to end)
• Respond to your enquiries and support requests
• Notify you about important changes to our services, Terms of Use or this policy
• Send newsletters or marketing messages only if you have opted in, and you can opt out at any time

We use your sign-in email address for receipts and account notices. We do not use it for marketing unless you have chosen to receive marketing.

3.3 For Security, Fraud Prevention and Content Protection

• Check that downloads are made by people who have paid for them
• Detect account sharing, bulk copying, scraping and other misuse
• Investigate failed, duplicate or disputed payments
• Protect against fraud, abuse and security threats

3.4 For Analytics and Improvement

• Understand how visitors use the Website and which content is most useful
• Improve website performance, content relevance and organisation
• Develop new features and resources
• Generate statistical reports that do not identify you

3.5 For Advertising

• Display advertisements on free pages to help fund our free educational content
• Measure advertising effectiveness
• Promote our services and partner offerings

Pages covered by your active Premium Access do not show advertisements to you.

3.6 For Legal Purposes

• Keep financial and tax records
• Comply with legal obligations and regulatory requirements
• Enforce our Terms of Use and resolve disputes

4. Legal Bases for Processing

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, we must have a lawful basis for using your personal data. We rely on:

• Contract: to create your account, take payment and deliver the Premium Access you bought
• Consent: when you choose to sign in with Google or Facebook, subscribe to marketing, or accept non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time
• Legitimate interests: to keep the Website secure, prevent fraud and misuse, improve our services and understand how they are used, where these interests are not outweighed by your rights
• Legal obligation: to keep records that the law requires, such as tax and accounting records

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances.

5.1 With Service Providers

We work with trusted providers who help us run the Website and deliver our services, including hosting, analytics, email delivery and security providers. They may use your information only to provide those services to us and must protect it.

5.2 With Google and Facebook

When you sign in with Google or Facebook, you interact directly with that provider, and it learns that you signed in to LessonNotes.ng. Their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use the Google and Facebook information described in Section 2.2 only to create and run your account, and we do not share it with advertisers or use it to build advertising profiles.

5.3 With Paystack

To process your payment, we share with Paystack your email address, the amount, the payment reference and a description of what you are buying. Paystack collects your payment details directly and handles them under its own privacy policy and security standards.

5.4 With Business Partners

Our Website may link to partner sites. If you click through, you leave our Website and the partner’s privacy policy applies. We do not send your account or purchase information to partners when you click such a link.

5.5 With Advertising Partners

Free pages show advertisements from third-party networks. These partners may collect information about your browsing through cookies and similar technologies. See Sections 6 and 7.

5.6 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if required by law, or to respond to legal processes, court orders or government requests, to protect our rights, property or safety, to investigate violations of our Terms of Use, or to prevent fraud or security threats.

5.7 Business Transfers

If LessonNotes.ng is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will tell you if this happens.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

6.1 What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the website recognise your browser and remember certain information.

6.2 Types of Cookies We Use

• Essential and Sign-In Cookies: needed to keep you signed in, protect your session and make the Website work (for example, remembering your class, term and subject filters). If you stay signed in, a sign-in cookie may remain on your device for a number of days until you sign out
• Payment Scripts: when you pay, Paystack loads its own script and may set its own cookies to process and secure the payment
• Analytics Cookies: help us understand how visitors use the Website
• Advertising Cookies: used by advertising partners on free pages to show and measure advertisements
• Preference Cookies: remember your settings

Google and Facebook may also set their own cookies when you use their sign-in buttons.

6.3 Managing Cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. You can block or delete cookies, and you can opt out of third-party advertising cookies. If you block essential cookies, you will not be able to stay signed in or complete a purchase, and other features may not work properly.

7. Third-Party Links and Advertising

7.1 External Links

Our Website contains links to third-party websites, including social media platforms and other educational resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies before giving them any personal information.

7.2 Third-Party Advertisements

We display advertisements from third-party networks on free pages. These advertisers may collect information about your visits to our Website and other websites, use cookies to track browsing behaviour, and show personalised advertisements. We do not control the content of these advertisements or the practices of advertisers.

8. Data Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration and misuse. These include:

• Encryption of data in transit (SSL/HTTPS)
• Sign-in through Google and Facebook, so we never hold a password for your account
• Payments handled by Paystack, so card details never reach our servers
• Premium files stored in encrypted form and released only to signed-in users with active access
• Access controls, regular security checks and data backups

However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your Google and Facebook accounts secure, as anyone who can sign in to them may be able to sign in to your LessonNotes.ng account.

9. Data Retention

We keep your personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

• Account Information: kept while your account is open, and deleted or anonymised after you ask us to close it, subject to the records below
• Order and Payment Records: kept for the period required by Nigerian tax and accounting law
• Access and Download Logs: kept for as long as needed for security, fraud prevention and enforcing our licence terms
• Analytics Data: kept according to the retention settings in our analytics tools
• Newsletter and Marketing Subscriptions: kept until you unsubscribe
• Contact Enquiries: kept as needed to respond to you and for record-keeping

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights over your personal information:

• Access and Portability: ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, in a commonly used format
• Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information, including the email address on your account
• Deletion: ask us to delete your personal information, subject to our legal obligations (see Section 11)
• Objection and Restriction: object to certain uses of your information, or ask us to restrict how we use it
• Withdraw Consent: unsubscribe from marketing using the link in our emails, withdraw your consent to sign-in data processing by closing your account, or change your cookie settings
• Lodge a Complaint: complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) or your local data protection authority

To use any of these rights, email us at info@syllabus.ng. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on a request.

11. Deleting Your Account and Data

You can ask us to delete your LessonNotes.ng account and the personal data linked to it at any time. This includes data we received from Google or Facebook when you signed in.

1. Email info@syllabus.ng from the email address on your account, with the subject line “Delete my account.” If you cannot access that address, tell us which provider you used (Google or Facebook) and your name on the account, so we can verify it is yours.
2. We will confirm your request and delete or anonymise your account information within a reasonable time, and no later than the period required by law.
3. We may keep limited records that the law requires us to keep, such as order and payment records. These are kept only for that purpose.

Please note that deleting your account ends any Premium Access remaining on it. See our Terms of Use for how refunds are handled.

If you signed in with Facebook, you can also remove LessonNotes.ng from the apps connected to your Facebook account in your Facebook settings, under Apps and Websites. You can do the same for Google in your Google Account’s security settings, under third-party apps with account access. Removing the app stops further sign-ins, and you can then email us to delete the data we already hold.

12. Children’s Privacy

LessonNotes.ng is designed for use by students, teachers and parents. We recognise that people under 18 may use our Website.

• Our free lesson notes can be browsed without an account or any personal information.
• Our Website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. You must be at least 13 to create an account.
• If you are under 18, please get permission from a parent or guardian before creating an account or sharing personal information. Purchases of Premium Access should be made by, or with the approval of, a parent or guardian.
• If you believe we have collected personal information from a child without proper consent, please contact us at info@syllabus.ng and we will delete it.

13. International Data Transfers

LessonNotes.ng is based in Nigeria and mainly serves users in Nigeria. However, some of our service providers, including sign-in providers, analytics tools and hosting or email services, may process data in other countries. If you access our Website from outside Nigeria, your information may be transferred to, stored and processed in Nigeria or other countries.

Where we transfer personal data out of Nigeria, we take steps to make sure it receives adequate protection in line with applicable data protection law.

14. Nigerian Data Protection Compliance

We comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019, to the extent it continues to apply. Our practices follow these principles:

• Lawful Processing: we process personal data lawfully, fairly and transparently
• Purpose Limitation: we collect data for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes
• Data Minimisation: we collect only the data we need, for example only basic profile details from Google and Facebook
• Accuracy: we keep personal data accurate and up to date
• Storage Limitation: we keep data only as long as necessary
• Security: we use appropriate security measures
• Accountability: we keep records of our data processing activities

15. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, legal requirements or technology. When we make significant changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date above, post a notice on our Website and, where appropriate, email account holders. Please review this policy from time to time.
