What are Antonyms?

Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings.

Common Antonym Pairs:

Size & Space:

  • big ↔ small
  • wide ↔ narrow
  • tall ↔ short
  • thick ↔ thin

Quality:

  • good ↔ bad/evil
  • beautiful ↔ ugly
  • clean ↔ dirty
  • new ↔ old

Time & Speed:

  • early ↔ late
  • fast ↔ slow
  • young ↔ old
  • first ↔ last

Direction & Position:

  • up ↔ down
  • in ↔ out
  • front ↔ back
  • left ↔ right
