The Goal of Your Presentation

You have spent weeks designing, sizing, and “mock-installing” your solar systems. Now comes the final stage: The Presentation. This is not just about showing that the lights turn on. It is about proving that you understand how and why the system works. Whether you worked alone or in a group, you must be able to explain your choices to the examiners.

What the Examiners are looking for:

  • Clarity: Can you explain a complex solar setup in simple words?
  • Confidence: Do you know your numbers (load, battery size, panel wattage)?
  • Professionalism: Is your project neat, and do you follow safety rules?

 

Structuring Your Presentation

A good presentation is like a story. It has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Follow this structure to keep your thoughts organized:

  1. The Problem (The Client’s Needs): Start by describing the house or business you designed for. “I designed this for a barber shop that needs to run two clippers and a fan for 8 hours a day.”
  2. The Solution (Your Design): Explain the equipment you chose. “I used two 200W Monocrystalline panels because the shop roof is very small.”
  3. The Technical Details: This is where you show your math. Show your load calculation and how you reached your battery capacity.
  4. The Demonstration: Switch the system on! Show the “Live Data” on your monitoring app or the charge controller screen.

Visual Aids and Documentation

You shouldn’t just stand there and talk. You need to show “Evidence.” Your project should be accompanied by a Project Technical Folder.

What should be inside your folder/on your poster:

  • The Load Table: A clear list of appliances, watts, and hours.
  • The Circuit Diagram: A neat drawing showing how the panels, controller, battery, and inverter are connected.
  • The Sizing Formula: Write out Watts×Hours=Watt−hours so the examiner can see your logic.
  • Photos of the Process: Pictures of your team wiring the batteries or mounting the panels.

 

Handling the “Q&A” (Questions and Answers)

After you finish speaking, the examiners will ask you questions. This is often where students get nervous, but it’s actually your chance to shine.

Common Questions to Prepare For:

  • “Why did you choose a 24V system instead of a 12V system?”
  • “What will happen to this system during the peak of the rainy season?”
  • “If the customer adds a refrigerator to this system tomorrow, will it still work?”

How to Answer:

  • Don’t Rush: Take a breath before answering.
  • Be Honest: If you don’t know a specific number, explain the principle behind it.
  • Refer to your Project: Point to your diagram or your multimeter reading to support your answer.

 

Final Tips for Success

To get the highest marks, pay attention to the small details that other students might forget.

  1. The “Safety” Mention: Always mention that you checked for loose connections and used insulated tools. Safety is a major part of the grading.
  2. Neatness Matters: Ensure your wires are tied together neatly. Use trunking or cable ties. A “spaghetti” of wires looks unprofessional.
  3. Teamwork (For Groups): If you are in a group, don’t let one person do all the talking. The examiners want to see that the “Sizing Specialist” and the “Installer” both understand the whole project.
  4. The “IoT” Factor: If your project uses smart monitoring, show how the app helps the customer. This shows you are a modern, 21st-century technician.
