The Internal Mock is not just another test; it is a “dress rehearsal” for your final SSCE. It helps you find out where your knowledge is strong and where it is still “leaking.”

In this exam, we are moving from basic definitions to Problem Solving. The examiners want to see if you can think like an engineer on the field, not just a student in a classroom.

What you must master for this Mock:

  • Component Roles: Knowing exactly what each part does (Panels, Controllers, Inverters, Batteries).
  • System Connections: Understanding the flow of energy from the sun to the bulb.
  • Safety Protocols: Knowing how to stay alive while working with high-voltage electricity.

Reviewing Energy Conversion (The Science)

You cannot be a solar professional if you don’t understand how light becomes light.

Key Concept: The Energy Path

  1. Light to DC: Sunlight hits the Silicon Cells in the PV panel. Through the Photovoltaic Effect, DC electricity is created.
  2. Regulation: The Charge Controller takes this raw power and “tames” it so it doesn’t overcharge and explode the battery.
  3. Storage: The energy is kept in the Battery Bank as chemical energy.
  4. Transformation: The Inverter converts the stored DC (Direct Current) into AC (Alternating Current) for your household appliances.

Mock Tip: If you are asked to draw a diagram, always label your arrows to show the direction of current flow.

The Step-by-Step Method:

  • Step 2: List the Hours of use for each item.
  • Step 3: Multiply (Watts × Hours) to get the Energy (Wh).
  • Step 4: Add everything together for the Total Daily Load.

Common Mistake to Avoid: Mixing up Watts (Power) and Watt-hours (Energy).

  • Watts is like the speed of a car.
  • Watt-hours is like the distance the car traveled.

 

Practical Troubleshooting (The “Detective” Work)

In the Mock, you might get a “Scenario Question.” These test your logic.

Example Scenario: “The customer says their inverter is working, but their fan is spinning very slowly and making a humming noise.”

  • Your Answer: The customer is likely using a Modified Sine Wave inverter instead of a Pure Sine Wave inverter. Inductive loads like fans and fridges need Pure Sine Wave to run smoothly.

Another Scenario: “A 200W panel is only producing 20W at midday.”

  • Your Answer: Check for shading (trees/buildings), heavy dust/dirt on the glass, or a loose MC4 connector that is causing high resistance.

 

Exam Day Strategy & Time Management

Success in the Mock isn’t just about what you know; it’s about how you write it.

  1. Read the Instruction: Does Section B ask you to answer three questions or four? Don’t waste time answering everything if you don’t have to.
  2. Sketch First: For drawing questions (like wiring a battery bank in series), use a pencil to sketch lightly before using your pen. This prevents messy cancellations.
  3. Use Bullet Points: When explaining maintenance or safety, use bullets. It makes it easier for the teacher to see your points and give you marks.
  4. The “Safety First” Rule: If a question asks about installation, always mention wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and checking for “loose connections.”
