Family Bond & Living Together as One Family – JSS2 Social Studies Lesson Note (First Term)

A family is a socially approved group made up of a husband and wife (or wives) and their children. It can also be a set of relationships between at least two people related by birth, marriage or adoption. A family bond is the strong tie that holds family members together and gives each person a sense of belonging.

What is a family?

A family can be defined as a socially approved group made up of husband and wife or wives and their children.

It can also be defined as a set of relationships between (at least) two persons who are related by birth, marriage or adoption.

What are the types of family?

There are two types of family:

1. Nuclear family
2. Extended family

What is a family bond?

A bond is something that binds, fastens, confines or holds together. A family bond can be defined as something that forms a connection between people or groups, such as feelings or ideas.

Family bonds are the strong ties that recognise and respect the rights of individual family members. They come from a process that members of a family go through to build emotional ties that last through a lifetime.

How do family members live together as one family?

A family is a group of persons related by blood who are descended from a common ancestor. Every family member is bonded to the others, so they do everything together in times of peace, war or problems, and they protect one another from enemies.

Peace brings cohesion, which gives every member of the family a sense of belonging.
