SOCIALIZATION

PROCESSES OF SOCIALIZATION

  1. Education- this involves the various earning processes by which a society transmits its knowledge, skills, customs, and values from one generation to another. It could be formal or informal.
  1. Apprenticeship-this is a situation whereby a person learns a skill, trade, practice, value, profession, customs, system, or an activity mostly to earn a living.
  1. Imitation- This is copying another individual’s actions
  2. Language- it is the means through which culture is transmitted from parents to the child

 

IMPORTANCE OF SOCIALIZATION

  1. it transforms a biological being into a social being
  2. it contributes to the development of a person
  3. it enables an individual to become disciplined
  4. it helps to enact different roles
  5. it helps an individual to develop the right aspirations in life
  6. it contributes to the stability of social order
  7. it reduces social discrimination
  8. It promotes societal values
  1. it helps in building a brighter future
  2. it provides knowledge of skills

 

EFFECTS OF SOCIALIZATION

  1. it provides individuals with the skills and habits necessary for participating in their society
  1. it helps an individual to become obedient to rules and regulations within his or her environment
  1. it helps an individual to learn how to empathize and show compassion towards others
  1. it teaches an individual how to be orderly and maintain instructions, especially in public affairs
  1. it helps an individual to develop friendship and social skills beneficial throughout life
  1. it helps to transmit social and cultural values and norms to the future generations of society
