ADDITION OF COINS AND NAIRA NOTES

Adding Money (Without Regrouping): When we add money, we add the values together.

Adding Coins: Exercise 8: Add these coins:

  1. ₦1 + ₦1 = ₦___
  2. 50 kobo + 50 kobo = ___ kobo
  3. ₦2 + ₦1 = ₦___
  4. ₦1 + 50 kobo = ₦1 and ___ kobo

Exercise 9: Find the total value:

  1. 🪙₁ + 🪙₁ + 🪙₁ = ₦___
  2. 🪙₀.₅ + 🪙₀.₅ + 🪙₀.₅ + 🪙₀.₅ = ___ kobo
  3. 🪙₂ + 🪙₁ = ₦___

Adding Notes: Exercise 10: Add these notes:

  2. ₦10 + ₦10 = ₦___

4. SUBTRACTION OF COINS AND NAIRA NOTES

Subtracting Money (Without Regrouping): When we subtract money, we take away the smaller amount.

Subtracting Coins: Exercise 12: Subtract these coins:

  1. ₦2 – ₦1 = ₦___
  2. ₦5 – ₦2 = ₦___
  3. ₦10 – ₦5 = ₦___
  4. ₦20 – ₦10 = ₦___

Exercise 13: Take away the money:

  1. I have ₦15. I spend ₦5. I have ₦___ left.
  2. I have ₦30. I spend ₦10. I have ₦___ left.
  3. I have ₦25. I spend ₦5. I have ₦___ left.

Exercise 14: Subtraction word problems:

  1. Tom has ₦50. He buys a sweet for ₦20. How much money does he have left? ₦50 – ₦20 = ₦___
  2. Mary has ₦100. She buys a book for ₦30. How much change does she get? ₦100 – ₦30 = ₦___

 

5. USE OF MONEY IN TRANSACTIONS

What are Transactions? A transaction is when we buy or sell something using money.

Parts of a Transaction:

  • Buyer – person who buys
  • Seller – person who sells
  • Item – what is bought
  • Price – how much it costs
  • Payment – money given
  • Change – money given back

Exercise 15: Complete these transactions:

  1. Item: Biscuit, Price: ₦5, Payment: ₦10 Change = ₦10 – ₦5 = ₦___
  2. Item: Pencil, Price: ₦20, Payment: ₦50 Change = ₦50 – ₦20 = ₦___
  3. Item: Sweet, Price: ₦2, Payment: ₦5 Change = ₦5 – ₦2 = ₦___

Exercise 16: Shopping scenarios:

  1. You want to buy a ruler for ₦15. You have ₦20. How much change will you get? Change = ₦___
  2. A book costs ₦40. You pay with ₦50. What is your change? Change = ₦___
  3. An apple costs ₦10. You give the seller ₦10. How much change do you get? Change = ₦___

Exercise 17: Can you buy it? (Circle Yes or No)

Exercise 19: Complete the shopping list: Items and Prices:
