To say a place of departure or arrival in French, we link each means of transport (moyen de transport) to its place: the plane to the airport, the train to the train station, the ship to the seaport, and the bus to the bus station or bus stop. We use the pattern “Pour aller à…, je prends…” to say how we travel.

Behavioural objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

• name the main means of transport in French;
• give the place of departure or arrival that goes with each one;
• say how they travel to a place, using “Pour aller à… / au… / en…, je prends…”;
• translate the vocabulary and example sentences into English.

What are the places of departure and arrival for each means of transport?

Each means of transport (un moyen de transport) has a place where we take it or where it arrives.

What expressions do we use to say how we travel?

• Pour aller à / au / en
• Où est-ce qu’on prend ?

L’avion est le moyen de transport le plus rapide.

Examples
