What is a Desktop?

  • The desktop is the main screen we see after the computer starts
  • It is like a workspace where we can find our programs
  • Everything we need to use the computer is on the desktop

Parts of the desktop:

  • The picture or color we see behind everything else
  • It can be a photo, pattern, or solid color
  • We can change it to pictures we like
  • It makes the computer look nice and personal
  • Does not affect how the computer works
  1. ICONS:

  • Small pictures that represent programs or files
  • We double-click on icons to open things
  • Common icons include:
    1. Recycle Bin (for deleted items)
    2. My Computer (to see files)
    3. Internet browser (to go online)
    4. Games and learning programs
  • Icons have names written under them

Other Desktop Elements:

My Computer Icon:
