CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – MEANING OF GOVERNMENT
There are three (3) arms of government, namely – executive, legislative and judiciary. Each of the arm of government has its own primary and other functions. The three (3) arms of government used their primary functions to check one another.

- Each arm has distinct responsibilities
- Separation of powers prevents abuse
- All arms work together for effective governance
LESSON 2 – MEMBERS, TYPES AND HEADS OF THE ARMS OF GOVERNMENT
LEGISLATURE
MEMBERS:
- Legislative arm consists of elected representatives
- In Nigeria, the members of the legislative are House of Senate and Representatives
LEGISLATURE HEAD:
- Senate President (for the Senate)
- Speaker of House of Representatives (for the House)
EXECUTIVE
MEMBERS:
- President, Vice President, Ministers, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen
- Civil servants and appointed officials
