Topic: Modes of Greeting

What is Greeting?

Greeting is how we say “hello” and show respect to people when we meet them.

Different Ways to Greet

  1. Verbal Greetings (Using Words)
  • “Good morning”
  • “Good afternoon”
  • “Hello”
  • “How are you?”
  1. Physical Greetings (Using Body)
  • Handshake
  • Wave your hand
  • Bow your head
  • Hug (for family)
  1. Cultural Greetings (Nigerian Ways)
  • Yoruba: “E kaaro” (Good morning)
  • Igbo: “Ndewo” (Hello)
  • Hausa: “Sannu” (Hello)
  • Prostrating (lying flat) for elders

 

EXERCISES

Exercise 1: Choose the Right Greeting

Circle the best greeting for each time:

  1. At 7:00 AM: Good morning / Good night
  2. At 2:00 PM: Good morning / Good afternoon
  3. At 8:00 PM: Good evening / Good morning

Exercise 2: Match the Greetings

Draw lines to match:

  • Handshake → Nigerian Hausa greeting
  • “Ndewo” → Physical greeting
  • “Sannu” → Nigerian Igbo greeting

Exercise 3: Fill in the Blanks
