Topic: Menu Bar

What is a Menu Bar?

The menu bar is a row of words at the top of Microsoft Word that gives you lists of commands when you click on them.

Main Menu Items

File Menu:

  • New – Create new document
  • Open – Open existing document
  • Save – Save your work
  • Save As – Save with new name
  • Print – Make paper copy
  • Close – Close current document
  • Exit – Close Microsoft Word

Edit Menu:

  • Undo – Cancel last action
  • Redo – Bring back undone action
  • Cut – Remove selected text
  • Copy – Make copy of text
  • Paste – Put copied text somewhere
  • Find – Search for specific words
  • Replace – Change one word to another

View Menu:

  • Normal – Regular view for typing
  • Print Layout – Shows how document will print
  • Zoom – Make page bigger or smaller
  • Toolbar – Show or hide toolbars
  • Ruler – Show measuring ruler

Insert Menu:

  • Page Break – Start new page
  • Picture – Add photos or images
  • Table – Create rows and columns
  • Symbols – Add special characters (©, ®, â„¢)
  • Date and Time – Insert current date

Format Menu:

  • Font – Change text style and size
  • Paragraph – Change spacing and alignment
  • Bullets and Numbering – Make lists
  • Page Setup – Change page size and margins

Living vs Non-living Sort

Exercise 3: Put these in the right group: Tree, Rock, Flower, Table, Grass, Pencil, Cactus, Ball

Plant Observation

Look at a plant in your classroom or outside:

  1. Is it growing toward the window/light? _______
  2. What color are the leaves? _______
  3. Can you see any flowers or fruits? _______
  4. How tall is it approximately? _______

Exercise 4: Find these menus and click on them: 

â–¡ File menu – find “Save” 

â–¡ Edit menu – find “Copy” 

â–¡ Insert menu – find “Picture” 

â–¡ View menu – find “Zoom”

Plant Features Check

Exercise 5: Observe a plant and check what you see: 

□ Green leaves (making food) 

□ Roots in soil (getting water) 

□ Growing toward light 

â–¡ Flowers or seeds (reproducing)

 

HOMEWORK

  1. Watch a plant at home for 3 days – does it change or grow?
  2. Practice using different menus in Microsoft Word
  3. Draw a plant and label: roots, stem, leaves, flowers

Fun Fact: A large tree can make enough oxygen in one day for two people to breathe!
