Introduction

Traditional songs are special songs that have been passed down from our grandparents to us. These songs tell stories about our culture.

Content

What are Traditional Songs? Traditional songs are:

  • Old songs from our ancestors
  • Songs that teach us about our culture
  • Songs sung during special occasions
  • Songs without modern instruments

Examples of Nigerian Traditional Songs:

  1. “Kokoro oja” – about market life
  2. “Ile oju opon” – about home
  3. “Ekaaro” – morning greeting song
  4. “Ole wa” – welcome song

Uses of Traditional Songs:

  • Teaching children good behavior
  • Celebrating festivals and ceremonies
  • Telling stories about our history
  • Bringing people together
  • Preserving our culture
  • Entertainment during work
