Topic: Organization Of Colour – Basic Colours

Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  • Mix basic colours (Red, Blue, Yellow) to get secondary colours
  • Identify secondary colours in/outside the classroom
  • Form a colour wheel, showing the basic and secondary colours

Introduction

When we mix the basic colors together, we get new colors! These new colors are called secondary colors.

Content

Color Mixing: When we mix basic colors, we get secondary colors:

  • RED + YELLOW = ORANGE

  • BLUE + YELLOW = GREEN

  • RED + BLUE = PURPLE

Secondary Colors:

  1. ORANGE – like oranges, carrots, pumpkins

GREEN – like grass, leaves, trees

PURPLE – like grapes, some flowers

The Color Wheel: A color wheel shows how colors are organized:

  • Basic colors are at the top
  • Secondary colors are between the basic colors that make them

Examples Around Us:

  • Orange: Oranges, sunset, basketball
  • Green: Plants, grass, traffic light
  • Purple: Eggplant, some flowers, grapes

Activity

  1. Mix red and yellow paint to make orange
  2. Mix blue and yellow to make green
  3. Mix red and blue to make purple
  4. Draw a simple color wheel
